#10 Lady Vols Match Against Tennessee State Canceled
KNOXVILLE, TN – The #10 Lady Vols’ match against Tennessee State, which was scheduled for Wednesday, December 13, has been canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the Tennessee State program.
The cancellation was announced by the University of Tennessee athletic department on Tuesday afternoon, citing the health and safety of the student-athletes, coaches, and staff as the top priority.
“We are disappointed that we won’t be able to play Tennessee State on Wednesday, but we understand the circumstances and the need to prioritize health and safety,” said Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper. “We will continue to follow the necessary protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff.”
The Lady Vols were looking forward to the matchup against Tennessee State, which would have been their final non-conference game of the season. The team is now focused on preparing for their next game, which is scheduled for Sunday, December 17, against #12/13 Texas A&M.
“We will use this time to focus on our own preparation and get ready for our next game against Texas A&M,” said Harper. “We know that every game is important, and we will be ready to compete at a high level on Sunday.”
The cancellation of the game against Tennessee State is the latest in a series of disruptions to the Lady Vols’ schedule due to COVID-19 protocols. The team has already had to cancel or postpone several games this season, including a matchup against UConn that was scheduled for earlier this month.
Despite the challenges, the Lady Vols have remained focused and committed to their goals. The team is currently 10-1 on the season, with their only loss coming against #1/1 South Carolina.
“We have a resilient team that has shown the ability to adapt and overcome challenges,” said Harper. “We will continue to take things one day at a time and focus on our own preparation and growth as a team.”
The Lady Vols’ next game against Texas A&M is scheduled for Sunday, December 17, at 2:00 PM ET at Thompson-Boling Arena. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network, and fans can also follow the action on the Lady Vols’ social media accounts.
“We are excited to get back on the court and compete against Texas A&M on Sunday,” said Harper. “We know that it will be a tough game, but we are confident in our abilities and ready to put on a show for our fans.”
