Knoxville, Tennessee – The #15/16 Tennessee Lady Vols continued their dominance in the Southeastern Conference, riding a hot shooting performance to a 99-61 victory over the Auburn Tigers.

 

The Lady Vols, who improved to 20-5 overall and 10-2 in the SEC, shot a blistering 58.5% from the field, including a 47.4% clip from beyond the 3-point line. The team’s impressive shooting display was led by junior guard Jordan Horston, who poured in a game-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting.

 

“We’ve been working hard on our shooting, and it’s great to see it pay off,” said Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper. “Our players did a great job of moving the ball and finding open shots. It was a fun game to watch.”

“Our bench was huge for us tonight,” Harper said. “We had a lot of players contribute, and that’s what makes us a tough team to beat.”

The Auburn Tigers, who fell to 10-13 overall and 2-10 in the SEC, struggled to keep pace with the Lady Vols’ high-powered offense. The Tigers were led by senior forward Unique Thompson, who scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

 

“We just couldn’t stop their offense,” said Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. “Tennessee is a very talented team, and they played a great game tonight.”

While the Lady Vols’ offense stole the show, the team’s defense also turned in a strong performance. Tennessee held Auburn to just 35.4% shooting from the field, including a 25.0% clip from beyond the 3-point line.

 

“Our defense was solid tonight,” Harper said. “We did a great job of contesting shots and rebounding the ball. It was a complete team effort.”

With the victory, the Lady Vols improved to 10-2 in the SEC, just one game behind league-leading South Carolina. Tennessee’s strong performance has also bolstered the team’s postseason hopes, with the Lady Vols now firmly in the mix for a top-four seed in the NCAA Tournament.
