Lady Vols Conclude Round One at Moon Golf Invitational
MELBOURNE, FL – The Tennessee Lady Vols golf team concluded round one of the Moon Golf Invitational on Monday, with the team sitting in a tie for sixth place after carding a 4-over-par 292.
The Lady Vols were led by sophomore transfer, Hannah Levi, who fired a 1-under-par 71 to sit in a tie for 10th place individually. Levi’s round was highlighted by three birdies and 14 pars, with her only blemish coming on the par-4 14th hole, where she carded a bogey.
“Hannah played a great round today,” said Tennessee head coach, Judi Pavon. “She’s been working hard on her game, and it’s great to see her have some success. She’s got a lot of confidence right now, and I think she’s going to be a big factor for us this week.”
Senior All-American, Blakesly Warren, also had a solid round for the Lady Vols, carding a 2-over-par 74 to sit in a tie for 24th place individually. Warren’s round was highlighted by two birdies and 12 pars, with her only blemishes coming on the par-4 5th hole and the par-3 17th hole, where she carded bogeys.
“Blakesly’s round was a bit up and down today,” said Pavon. “She had some great moments, but she also had a few mistakes. However, she’s a senior and a leader on our team, and I know she’ll bounce back strong tomorrow.”
The Lady Vols’ team score of 292 was good enough to put them in a tie for sixth place with Virginia Tech, just six shots behind leader Florida State. The Seminoles carded a 2-under-par 286 to take the early lead, with Michigan State and UCF tied for second at 1-under-par 287.
“We’re in a good position after round one,” said Pavon. “We’re only six shots back, and we know we can make up that ground with a good round tomorrow. The girls are feeling confident and focused, and I think we’re going to have a great day tomorrow.”
The Lady Vols will tee off in round two of the Moon Golf Invitational on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET, paired with Virginia Tech and UCF.
“We’re looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow and competing,” said Levi. “We know we’ve got a tough road ahead of us, but we’re ready for the challenge. We’re going to go out there and give it our all, and see where it takes us.”
The Moon Golf Invitational is being played at the par-72, 6,246-yard Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, FL. The tournament features a field of 15 teams, including several of the top programs in the country.
“We’re excited to be competing against some of the best teams in the country this week,” said Pavon. “It’s going to be a great test for us, and we’re looking forward to seeing how we stack up. We’re going to go out there and give it our all, and see where it takes us.”
