DETROIT, MI – Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has avoided disciplinary action from the NFL after being involved in a handgun controversy earlier this year.

In September, Williams was arrested in Alabama for possessing a handgun without a permit. The incident occurred when Williams was stopped by police for speeding, and a handgun was found in his vehicle.

The NFL has a strict policy regarding firearms, and players who violate this policy can face disciplinary action, including fines and suspensions. However, after conducting an investigation, the NFL has decided not to take any disciplinary action against Williams.

“We have completed our investigation into the matter involving Jameson Williams, and we have decided not to take any disciplinary action,” an NFL spokesperson said in a statement. “We take these types of incidents seriously, but we also take into account the circumstances surrounding the incident and the player’s cooperation with the investigation.”

Williams’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, released a statement on behalf of his client, expressing relief that the matter has been resolved.

“Jameson is relieved that this matter has been resolved, and he is grateful for the support of the Detroit Lions and the NFL,” Rosenhaus said. “Jameson understands the seriousness of the incident and has learned from his mistake. He is committed to being a positive influence on and off the field.”

The Detroit Lions also released a statement, expressing their support for Williams.

“We are pleased that the NFL has completed its investigation and has decided not to take any disciplinary action against Jameson,” the team said. “We support Jameson and are confident that he will continue to be a valuable member of our team.”

Williams, who was a first-round draft pick by the Lions in 2022, has been a key contributor to the team’s offense this season. He has caught 35 passes for 543 yards and three touchdowns, and has been named the NFL’s Rookie of the Week twice.

The decision by the NFL not to take disciplinary action against Williams has been met with mixed reaction from fans and media. Some have praised the league for taking a fair and nuanced approach to the situation, while others have criticized the league for not taking a stronger stance against gun violence.

Regardless of the reaction, the decision by the NFL not to take disciplinary action against Williams brings an end to a controversy that has been ongoing for several months. Williams can now focus on the rest of the season, and the Lions can continue to compete for a playoff spot without the distraction of the handgun controversy.

In a statement, Williams expressed his gratitude for the support of his team and the NFL, and vowed to learn from his mistake.

“I am grateful for the support of my team and the NFL, and I am relieved that this matter has been resolved,” Williams said. “I understand the seriousness of the incident, and I have learned from my mistake. I am committed to being a positive influence on and off the field, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the success of the Detroit Lions.”
