The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team is set to open play at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament on Wednesday, as they take on the Ole Miss Rebels in the quarterfinals. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6:00 PM ET at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
The Lady Vols, who finished the regular season with a 22-7 overall record and a 12-4 mark in the SEC, are looking to make a deep run in the tournament and secure a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. Tennessee is currently ranked No. 12 in the AP poll and is considered one of the top contenders for the SEC Tournament title.
“We’re excited to get started in the tournament,” said Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper. “We’ve had a great regular season, but now it’s time to focus on the postseason. We know it won’t be easy, but we’re confident in our abilities and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
The Lady Vols will face a tough test in their quarterfinal matchup against Ole Miss. The Rebels, who finished the regular season with a 19-10 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the SEC, are a physical team that likes to pound the ball inside and play tough defense.
“Ole Miss is a very good team,” said Harper. “They’re physical, they’re athletic, and they’re well-coached. We’ll need to be at our best to beat them, but we’re confident that we can do it.”
The Lady Vols will be led by their senior trio of Jordan Horston, Rickea Jackson, and Jasmine Powell. Horston, a 6-2 forward, is averaging 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while Jackson, a 6-2 forward, is averaging 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Powell, a 5-8 guard, is averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 assists per game.
Tennessee’s matchup against Ole Miss will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. The Lady Vols won the first meeting 70-58 on January 29 in Knoxville.
The winner of the Lady Vols’ quarterfinal matchup against Ole Miss will advance to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of the matchup between No. 2 seed LSU and No. 7 seed Arkansas.
The SEC Tournament will continue through Sunday, with the championship game set to tip off at 2:00 PM ET. The tournament will be televised on the ESPN family of networks, with the championship game airing on ESPN.
“We’re excited to be a part of the SEC Tournament,” said Harper. “It’s one of the toughest tournaments in the country, and we’re looking forward to the challenge. We know it won’t be easy, but we’re confident that we can make a deep run and bring home a championship.”
