The Ohio University baseball team earned a thrilling series win over Mid-American Conference rival Buffalo on Sunday, thanks to a walk-off victory in the bottom of the 10th inning.

With the score tied at 5-5 and two outs in the 10th, Ohio’s Trevor Lukkes delivered a clutch single to center field, scoring pinch runner Sebastian Fabik from second base and securing the 6-5 win for the Bobcats.

The walk-off victory capped off a dramatic comeback for Ohio, which trailed 5-1 after six innings. However, the Bobcats refused to give up, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

“I’m so proud of our guys for never giving up,” said Ohio head coach Rob Smith. “We faced some adversity today, but we battled back and found a way to win. It was a great team effort.”

The win marked Ohio’s second walk-off victory of the season, and it secured the series win for the Bobcats. Ohio took the first game of the series 8-5 on Friday, before Buffalo evened the series with a 7-3 win on Saturday.

Sunday’s game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading runs and neither able to gain a significant advantage. Buffalo took an early 2-0 lead, but Ohio responded with a run in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Bulls added three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead, but Ohio’s comeback began in the bottom of the seventh. The Bobcats scored four runs in the inning, capped off by a two-run single by Lukkes, to tie the game at 5-5.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the 10th, when Lukkes delivered his walk-off single to secure the win for Ohio.

“Trevor had a huge day for us,” said Smith. “He’s been swinging the bat well all season, and he came through in a big way today.”

The win improved Ohio’s record to 15-10 overall and 5-4 in the MAC. The Bobcats will look to build on their momentum next weekend, when they travel to Kent State for a three-game series.

“We’re feeling good about ourselves right now,” said Smith. “We’re playing some good baseball, and we’re excited to see where it takes us. We’ve got a tough series coming up next weekend, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Sunday’s walk-off victory was the perfect way for Ohio to cap off its series against Buffalo. The Bobcats showed their resilience and determination, and they were rewarded with a thrilling win.

“It was a great win for us,” said Lukkes. “We never gave up, and we were able to come out on top. It was a lot of fun to be a part of.”
