The Tennessee Lady Vols suffered a stunning upset at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday, falling 57-55 in a game that was marked by poor shooting from the Vols.

Tennessee, which came into the game ranked No. 5 in the country, shot just 32.8% from the field and 20% from three-point range. The Vols were also outrebounded by the Bulldogs, 42-35.

“We just didn’t shoot the ball well,” said Tennessee head coach Kellie Harper. “We had some good looks, but we just couldn’t get them to fall. You can’t win games when you’re shooting that poorly.”

The loss was a disappointing one for the Lady Vols, who had been playing some of their best basketball of the season coming into the game. Tennessee had won 16 straight games before Sunday’s loss, and had been dominating opponents on both ends of the floor.

But against Georgia, the Vols just couldn’t get anything going. They fell behind early, trailing 15-6 after the first quarter, and were never able to fully recover.

Tennessee’s leading scorer, Rickea Jackson, was held to just 10 points on 4-of-15 shooting. The Vols’ other top scorer, Jordan Horston, was also held in check, scoring just 8 points on 3-of-12 shooting.

“We just didn’t execute well on offense,” said Harper. “We had some turnovers, and we just didn’t get the shots we wanted. You can’t win games when you’re not executing on offense.”

The loss was a big one for the Lady Vols, who are now tied with South Carolina for first place in the SEC standings. Tennessee will look to bounce back on Thursday when it hosts Vanderbilt.

“We’re just going to have to regroup and refocus,” said Harper. “We can’t let one loss turn into two or three. We have to bounce back and get back to playing the way we know we can.”

The Lady Vols will also be looking to get back to their usual dominant form on defense. Tennessee came into the game allowing just 54.5 points per game, but gave up 57 to the Bulldogs.

“We just didn’t defend well,” said Harper. “We gave up too many easy baskets, and we just didn’t execute well on defense. We have to do a better job of defending if we want to win games.”

The loss to Georgia was a disappointing one for the Lady Vols, but it’s not the end of the world. Tennessee is still one of the top teams in the country, and has the talent and depth to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

“We’re just going to have to learn from our mistakes and move on,” said Harper. “We can’t let one loss define us. We have to bounce back and get back to playing the way we know we can.”
