Alabama is defeated by the Lady Vols basketball team, continuing their winning streak…..
KNOXVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team continued their winning streak with a thrilling 74-68 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Lady Vols, who have now won 10 consecutive games, were led by senior guard Jordan Horston, who scored a game-high 23 points, including 5 three-pointers.
“I’m so proud of our team for coming out and competing the way we did tonight,” said Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper. “Alabama is a very talented team, and we knew it was going to be a tough game. But our players stepped up and made big plays when it mattered most.”
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets and playing tenacious defense. The Lady Vols took a 38-35 lead into halftime, but Alabama came out strong in the second half, taking a 55-53 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
However, the Lady Vols responded with a 10-2 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Horston, to take a 63-57 lead with 5 minutes left. Alabama cut the deficit to 2 points with 1 minute remaining, but the Lady Vols sealed the win with a pair of free throws from senior forward Rickea Jackson.
Jackson finished with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while sophomore guard Sara Puckett added 12 points and 5 assists. The Lady Vols also got a big boost from their bench, which outscored Alabama’s bench 20-10.
” Our bench was huge for us tonight,” said Harper. “They brought a lot of energy and made some big plays. We’re going to need that kind of production from our bench as we head down the stretch.”
The win improved the Lady Vols’ record to 22-4 overall and 12-2 in the Southeastern Conference. They remain in second place in the SEC standings, just behind undefeated South Carolina.
Alabama, which was led by junior guard Brittany Davis’ 20 points, fell to 16-10 overall and 6-8 in the SEC.
The Lady Vols will look to extend their winning streak on Sunday when they host Vanderbilt at Thompson-Boling Arena.
“We’re feeling good right now, but we know we can’t get complacent,” said Horston. “We have to keep working hard and stay focused on our goals. We’re excited to get back out there on Sunday and keep rolling.”
