COLUMBUS, OH – In a remarkable conclusion to his inaugural season, Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has been named the National Offensive Freshman of the Year. The prestigious award, presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), recognizes Smith’s outstanding performance as a first-year player in the college football landscape.

Smith, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound receiver from Los Angeles, California, made an instant impact for the Buckeyes, hauling in 65 receptions for 1,045 yards and 10 touchdowns. His impressive stats not only led all freshman receivers in the nation but also earned him a spot on the FWAA’s Freshman All-America Team.

“Jeremiah’s accomplishments this season are a testament to his hard work, dedication, and natural talent,” said Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. “We’re incredibly proud of him, and this award is well-deserved recognition of his outstanding play.”

Smith’s emergence as a top receiver was a significant factor in Ohio State’s success this season. He formed a dynamic duo with quarterback C.J. Stroud, who also had a remarkable freshman campaign. Together, they helped propel the Buckeyes to a 10-2 regular season record and a berth in the College Football Playoff.

“Jeremiah’s been an incredible teammate and a joy to play with,” said Stroud. “He’s got a special combination of size, speed, and athleticism that makes him a nightmare to defend. I’m thrilled to see him receive this award, and I know he’s only going to continue to get better.”

The National Offensive Freshman of the Year Award is presented annually by the FWAA, which has been recognizing outstanding college football players for over 75 years. Smith becomes the third Ohio State player to receive this honor, joining running back J.K. Dobbins (2017) and quarterback Braxton Miller (2011).

“Jeremiah Smith is an exceptional talent, and his freshman season was truly remarkable,” said FWAA President Steve Richardson. “We’re pleased to recognize his outstanding achievements with this award, and we look forward to seeing his continued growth and success in the years to come.”

Smith’s award is the latest in a string of accolades for the Ohio State football program. The Buckeyes have produced numerous award winners and All-Americans in recent years, solidifying their reputation as one of the premier programs in college football.

As Smith looks to build on his impressive freshman campaign, he’s already setting his sights on bigger goals. “This award is an incredible honor, but I’m not satisfied with just individual recognition,” Smith said. “I want to help bring a national championship to Ohio State, and I’m excited to get back to work with my teammates to make that happen.”
