Bruno Fernandes has spoken about Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at Manchester United.
Manchester United performed well in the Premier League beating Leicester 3-0.
The Dutchman also scored once against Chelsea in the Premier League and ended his interim spell with the highest win percentage in United’s history.
However, Van Nistelrooy could leave the club at the end of the month as it is unclear whether he will remain in Ruben Amorim’s coaching staff. Amorim is set to officially leave United on Monday and will bring his personal trainer to Manchester from Sporting Lisbon. Bruno Fernandes says Manchester United’s players want to part ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy because of his influence as caretaker manager.
Van Nistelrooy took over temporarily after Erik Ten Hag was sacked and rebuilt the team with two wins against Leicester and one against PAOK.
Van Nistelrooy received a special welcome after United’s 3-0 win over Leicester on Sunday afternoon, with Fernandes praising his influence in his post-victory speech.
“I haven’t scored for a while but the goals have come in the last few games,” Fernandes told BBC Sport. “Another clean sheet was important for us to regain the momentum we had here. Ruud van Nistelrooy feels and loves the club.
“He wants to make the players happy. He brought everyone to the game with a smile and just wanted us to have fun.
As coaches, we wanted to say goodbye to him on a good note because he was so good to us. “It’s a new era, a new manager means things will change, but what hasn’t changed is that this club needs to get back to where it belongs.”
Adelio Candido and Carlos Fernandes followed Amorim from Braga to Sporting in 2020 and are expected to join United, who could bring in other managers to the club.
Ineos is set to review Ten Haag’s coaching staff in the summer, and Van Nistelrooy is set to return to United as a senior manager.
