Caleb Downs Agrees with Bold Claim about Ohio State’s Championship Run

Columbus, OH – The Ohio State Buckeyes have been one of the most dominant programs in college football over the past decade, and safety Caleb Downs is confident that they have what it takes to make another championship run.

Downs, a sophomore from Hoschton, Georgia, was a key contributor to the Buckeyes’ secondary last season, starting 12 games and recording 46 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass breakups.

Recently, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit made a bold claim about the Buckeyes’ chances of winning a national championship this season. Herbstreit, a former Ohio State quarterback, predicted that the Buckeyes would not only win the Big Ten Championship, but also go on to win the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Downs agrees with Herbstreit’s assessment, and believes that the Buckeyes have the talent, depth, and experience to make a deep run in the playoffs.

“I think we’ve got a great team this year,” Downs said. “We’ve got a lot of talented players on both sides of the ball, and I think we’ve got the depth and experience to make a championship run. We’re all excited about the opportunity to compete for a national title.”

The Buckeyes return a number of key players from last year’s team, including quarterback C.J. Stroud, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and running back TreVeyon Henderson. They also have a number of talented newcomers, including freshman wide receiver Brandon Inniss and freshman defensive end Kenyatta Jackson.

Downs believes that the Buckeyes’ strength and conditioning program, which is led by strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti, has been a key factor in their success.

“Coach Marotti’s program is top-notch,” Downs said. “He pushes us to be our best every day, and he’s always finding ways to help us improve our strength, speed, and agility. I think our strength and conditioning program is one of the best in the country, and it’s a big reason why we’re able to compete at such a high level.”

The Buckeyes’ schedule is loaded with tough opponents, including non-conference games against Notre Dame and Texas, and Big Ten matchups against Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin. However, Downs is confident that the Buckeyes have the talent and depth to overcome any challenge.

“I think we’ve got a tough schedule, but I also think we’ve got the talent and depth to overcome any challenge,” Downs said. “We’re all excited about the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the country, and we’re confident that we can come out on top.”

Overall, Downs agrees with Herbstreit’s bold claim about the Buckeyes’ championship chances. He believes that the Buckeyes have the talent, depth, and experience to make a deep run in the playoffs, and he’s excited about the opportunity to compete for a national title.

“I think we’ve got a great team this year, and I’m excited about the opportunity to compete for a national title,” Downs said. “We’re all going to work hard and do everything we can to make it happen.”
