CHICAGO, IL – The Big Ten Conference has announced that Jaloni Cambridge, a freshman guard for the Ohio State Buckeyes, has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Cambridge, a 6-foot-3 native of Nashville, Tennessee, had a breakout performance in the Buckeyes’ 85-74 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday. He scored a career-high 23 points, including 5 three-pointers, and added 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 31 minutes of action.
“Jaloni had a tremendous game against Penn State,” said Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann. “He’s been working hard to develop his skills and gain confidence, and it was great to see him have a breakout performance like that.”
Cambridge’s award is the first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor for an Ohio State player this season. He is averaging 8.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 44.7% from the field and 40.6% from three-point range.
“Jaloni is a talented young player who is still learning and growing,” said Holtmann. “He’s got a lot of potential, and we’re excited to see him continue to develop and contribute to our team.”
The Buckeyes, who are currently 18-5 overall and 9-3 in the Big Ten, will look to Cambridge and the rest of their young core to continue to step up and lead the team as they head down the stretch of the regular season.
Ohio State’s next game is on Wednesday, when they will host the Indiana Hoosiers at Value City Arena. The game is set to tip off at 7:00 PM ET.
