COLUMBUS, OH – In a shocking turn of events, 4-star running back Jireh Edwards has announced that he is ditching Kalen DeBoer’s Washington Huskies for Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes.

Edwards, who had been committed to Washington since June 2022, made the surprise announcement on social media on Tuesday evening, sending shockwaves throughout the college football world.

“I want to thank Coach DeBoer and the entire Washington staff for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be a part of their program,” Edwards wrote on Twitter. “However, after careful consideration and prayer, I have decided to decommit from Washington and commit to Ohio State University. I’m excited to join the Buckeye family and can’t wait to get to work!”

Edwards’ decision to flip from Washington to Ohio State is a major coup for the Buckeyes, who have been looking to bolster their running back corps. The 5-10, 190-pound back from Antioch, California, is considered one of the top running back prospects in the country, with a 4-star rating from 247Sports.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Jireh to the Buckeye family,” said Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. “He’s an exceptional talent, and we believe he has the potential to make a significant impact on our program. We’re looking forward to seeing him in scarlet and gray.”

Edwards’ decision to flip from Washington to Ohio State is also a testament to the Buckeyes’ strong recruiting efforts. Ohio State has been one of the top recruiting programs in the country in recent years, and Edwards’ commitment is just the latest example of the Buckeyes’ ability to attract top talent.

“Coach Day and his staff have built a reputation for being one of the top recruiting programs in the country, and Jireh’s commitment is just the latest example of that,” said 247Sports recruiting analyst, Allen Trieu. “Edwards is a talented back who can make an immediate impact, and Ohio State is getting a great player.”

Edwards’ decommitment from Washington is also a significant blow to the Huskies’ recruiting efforts. Washington had been counting on Edwards to be a key contributor to their offense in the future, and his loss will be deeply felt.

“We’re disappointed to lose Jireh, but we wish him all the best at Ohio State,” said Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer. “We’ll continue to recruit and develop top talent, and we’re confident that we’ll find another great player to fill the void.”

Edwards’ commitment to Ohio State is also a significant development for the Buckeyes’ 2024 recruiting class. With Edwards on board, Ohio State now has 15 commits in its 2024 class, including several other highly-rated prospects.

“We’re excited to welcome Jireh to the Buckeye family, and we’re looking forward to seeing him in action,” said Day. “We’ve got a great recruiting class coming together, and we’re confident that we’re building a team that can compete for championships.”
