COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State defensive end JT Tuimoloau announced on Tuesday that he will be forgoing his remaining eligibility and entering the 2024 NFL Draft.

Tuimoloau, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive end from Edgewater, Maryland, had a breakout season for the Buckeyes in 2022, recording 10 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He was a key member of Ohio State’s defensive line, helping the Buckeyes to a 11-2 record and a appearance in the College Football Playoff.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have played for Ohio State and to have been a part of such a great program,” Tuimoloau said in a statement. “I am excited to take the next step in my football career and to pursue my dreams of playing in the NFL.”

Tuimoloau is widely considered to be one of the top defensive end prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. He is projected to be a first-round pick and could potentially be selected in the top 10.

“JT is a talented player who has worked hard to develop his skills and become one of the best defensive ends in the country,” said Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. “We are proud of the way he has represented Ohio State and we wish him all the best as he pursues his dreams in the NFL.”

Tuimoloau’s departure is a significant loss for the Buckeyes, who will have to replace him in their defensive line rotation. However, Ohio State has a deep and talented roster, and the Buckeyes are expected to be one of the top teams in the country again in 2024.

“JT’s decision to enter the NFL Draft is not a surprise, given his talent and potential,” said Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. “We will miss him, but we are confident that we have the players and the depth to continue to be successful on defense.”

Tuimoloau’s announcement comes on the heels of a number of other Ohio State players declaring for the NFL Draft. The Buckeyes have had a number of players leave early for the NFL in recent years, including defensive end Chase Young, who was selected by the Washington Commanders with the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

“JT is a great example of the kind of player who can come to Ohio State and develop into a top NFL prospect,” said Day. “We are proud of the way he has represented our program and we look forward to seeing him succeed at the next level.”

Tuimoloau’s decision to enter the NFL Draft is a significant one, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up being selected. One thing is certain, however: JT Tuimoloau is a talented player who is ready to take the next step in his football career.
