Flight forced to return to Manchester Airport after being ‘struck by lightning’
Loganair flight forced to turn back around 30 minutes after crash.
A flight from Manchester was forced to return to the airport on Thursday evening after being struck by lightning, the M.E.N. reports.
Logan Air flight LM26, bound for Aberdeen, had left Manchester City at around 4.30pm when it was unexpectedly due to turn back 30 minutes into the flight.
The plane was struck by lightning, causing the windscreen to crack. It is believed no one was injured and the plane landed safely.
Trackers, according to FlightRadar24, show the plane flying north before returning to the skies over Skipton and returning to its point of departure around 5pm.
The return to Manchester Airport was around 29 minutes after take-off. It comes after the region was hit by strong winds and heavy rain on Thursday, amid a yellow weather warning from the Met Office.
Forecasters have issued warnings for the north west and parts of the UK for the next few days.
Storm Darragh – the fourth named storm of the season – is also expected to bring winds of up to 130km/h and heavy rain on Friday and Saturday.
