Former Texas Longhorns football player arrested in Pottsboro
Pottsboro, Texas – A former University of Texas Longhorns football player was arrested in Pottsboro, Texas, on Tuesday, according to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.
Quincy Vasser, a 29-year-old former defensive lineman for the Longhorns, was taken into custody by Pottsboro police officers and booked into the Grayson County Jail.
According to the arrest report, Vasser was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The arrest stems from a traffic stop conducted by Pottsboro police officers on Tuesday afternoon. Vasser was driving a vehicle that was pulled over for a traffic violation, and during the stop, officers discovered the controlled substance, marijuana, and firearm.
Vasser, who played for the Longhorns from 2011 to 2014, was a standout defensive lineman during his time in Austin. He appeared in 24 games for the Longhorns, recording 34 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
After his college football career, Vasser went on to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Edmonton Eskimos. He also spent time with the NFL’s New York Giants, although he did not appear in any regular-season games for the team.
Vasser’s arrest is the latest in a string of incidents involving former University of Texas athletes. In recent years, several former Longhorns players have been arrested or charged with crimes, including former quarterback David Ash, who was arrested in 2019 on charges of driving while intoxicated.
The University of Texas has a strong athletic program, and its football team has a rich history of producing talented players who go on to succeed at the next level. However, the program has also faced its share of challenges and controversies over the years, including the arrest of former coach Mack Brown’s nephew, who was charged with driving while intoxicated in 2013.
Vasser’s arrest is a reminder that even successful athletes can struggle with personal demons and make mistakes. The incident serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of seeking help when needed.
The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement regarding Vasser’s arrest, saying that the former football player was cooperative during the arrest and is currently being held in the Grayson County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
Vasser’s attorney has released a statement saying that his client is innocent until proven guilty and that they will vigorously defend him against the charges.
The case is ongoing, and Vasser is expected to appear in court in the coming weeks to face the charges against him.
In the meantime, the University of Texas athletic department has released a statement saying that they are aware of Vasser’s arrest and are monitoring the situation.
“We are aware of the situation involving Quincy Vasser and are monitoring it closely,” the statement read. “We will have no further comment at this time.”
The incident serves as a reminder that even successful athletes can struggle with personal demons and make mistakes. The case is ongoing, and Vasser’s future remains uncertain.
