FORT MYERS, FL – Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is no stranger to making tough decisions.
As the team prepares for the upcoming season, Cora is facing a number of roster decisions that are sure to leave some players and fans disappointed.
In a recent interview, Cora acknowledged that the Red Sox have a number of talented players vying for a limited number of spots on the roster. He also warned that some players are going to be left out, and that’s just the nature of the game.
“There’s going to be people upset,” Cora said. “That’s just the way it is. We have a lot of good players, and we can’t keep everyone. We have to make decisions based on what we think is best for the team, and that’s not always going to be popular with everyone.”
One of the most intriguing roster battles is taking place in the outfield, where a number of players are vying for a spot alongside Alex Verdugo and Enrique Hernandez. Rob Refsnyder, Jarren Duran, and Roman Anthony are all in the mix, and Cora says that the competition is fierce.
“All of those guys have done a great job,” Cora said. “They’ve all shown that they can play at this level, and it’s going to be a tough decision. But we’ll make the decision that we think is best for the team, and we’ll go from there.”
Another area of the roster that is still up in the air is the bullpen. The Red Sox have a number of talented relievers, including Matt Barnes, Ryan Brasier, and Hirokazu Sawamura. However, Cora says that the team is still looking to add some depth to the bullpen, and that could impact the roster decisions.
“We’re still looking to add some pieces to the bullpen,” Cora said. “We want to make sure that we have a deep and talented bullpen, and that’s going to take some time to figure out. But we’re getting close, and we’ll make the decisions that we think are best for the team.”
Despite the challenges of making roster decisions, Cora is confident that the Red Sox have the talent and depth to compete for a championship.
“I think we have a great team,” Cora said. “We’ve got a lot of talented players, and we’ve got a good mix of veterans and young guys. I think we’re in a good position to compete for a championship, and that’s what it’s all about.”
As the Red Sox continue to prepare for the upcoming season, Cora and his staff will be making some tough decisions about the roster. While some players and fans may be disappointed, Cora is confident that the team will be well-equipped to compete for a championship.
