FORT MYERS, FL – The Boston Red Sox have been dealt a significant blow as dynamic outfielder Jarren Duran has been sidelined with a calf injury.
The injury, which occurred during a spring training game, has forced the Red Sox to hit the brakes on Duran’s preparations for the upcoming season.
Duran, who was expected to be a key contributor to the Red Sox’s outfield, has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 calf strain. The injury is not considered serious, but it will likely keep Duran out of commission for at least a week.
“We’re being cautious with Jarren,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora. “We don’t want to rush him back and risk making the injury worse. We’ll take it day by day and see how he progresses.”
The loss of Duran is a significant blow to the Red Sox’s outfield, which was already considered one of the team’s biggest question marks. With Duran out, the Red Sox will have to rely on other players to fill the void.
One player who could potentially benefit from Duran’s absence is Rob Refsnyder. Refsnyder, who was signed by the Red Sox as a free agent in the offseason, has been impressive in spring training and could potentially see more playing time with Duran out.
“We’ve got a lot of depth in the outfield,” said Cora. “We’ll mix and match and see what works best. We’re confident that we can find a way to make it work.”
Despite the setback, Duran remains optimistic about his chances of being ready for the start of the season.
“I’m feeling good,” said Duran. “I’m just taking it day by day and doing what the trainers tell me to do. I’m hoping to be back on the field soon.”
The Red Sox will continue to evaluate Duran’s progress and make a decision about his status for the start of the season.
