“I’m not not trying to criticize Arteta but I’m not happy with him for benching that player”: Arsenal star Bukayo Saka furious at Arteta for benching £46M player who always turns up in important game
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has revealed his disappointment at being substituted against RC Lens in their Champions League group see stage match on Wednesday night.
The Gunners were able to confirm a place in the last 16 with a simple draw, while results elsewhere meant a win would give them top spot with a game in hand.
It didn’t take long for them to take the lead through Kai Havertz, who continued his fine form by scoring his second goal in as many games from close range.
Gabriel Jesus and Saka got their names on the scoresheet within minutes of each other, putting the tie firmly in their hands.
Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard turned the game their way before half-time, securing a five-goal lead before the break.
The second half was more focused on managing the game for the home team, with some pressure from Lens, but nothing that caused much concern.
Arsenal, however, scored another goal in the match after a handball and a penalty awarded after a VAR review.
The penalty was taken by Jorginho, who scored with a leap, skip and jump to seal a 6-0 win and a place in the last 16 of the competition. “I never dreamed of it!” Mikel Arteta told the media after the match. “We were lucky to qualify today and top the group and I thought we did very convincingly against a very good team.
The team showed a lot of aggression and determination from the start to take the game.” “Everything went well in the first 30 minutes. That really helped us win the game.”
