In another twist, Stefan Borsson commented on Manchester City’s large-scale signings

Stefan Borson drops verdict on Man City agreeing huge deal after new twist

Manchester City’s sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways will not be affected by the Premier League’s proposed changes to its related party transaction (APT) rules.

This is the opinion of the former Man City financial advisor, Stefan Borson, who, in an interview with Football Insider, believes that these changes will not have a big impact on the fortunes of the English champions.

Manchester City took legal action against the Premier League over the current APT regulations at an arbitration hearing last June.

Both sides said they won the lawsuit last month after a court ruled two aspects of the rule were illegal.

A key part of the deal is that Manchester City have agreed to effectively extend their contract with Etihad, which is owned by the Abu Dhabi government through the government’s sovereign wealth fund ADQ.

The Times reported changes to the Premier League’s APT rules on November 6. This will allow top clubs to secure more lucrative sponsorship deals. “It is proposed to be approved according to the 2021 regulations.

“Although City made an offer in November 2023, these are the terms used to consider an Etihad deal for 2021. “This does not affect City’s proposed Etihad deal to date and any other transactions mentioned in the ruling.

“It would be wrong to believe that City failed because of the 2021 regulations. “The only thing that affects the Etihad side of the process is access to the database. I think they got it after all.

“But the question is when to get that information, which is now codified into law, so that appellants have comparative data they can use to challenge the settlement if it is rejected.
