Jewel Spear passes Candace Parker in Lady Vols’ history book

No. 13 Tennessee (20-6, 7-6 SEC) defeated No. 10 Alabama (21-6, 8-5 SEC), 88-80, on Thursday at Food City Center.

Fifth-year guard Jewel Spear led the Lady Vols in scoring with 20 points. She converted 4-of-6 field goal attempts, 1-of-2 three-point attempts and 11-of-11 free throw attempts in 26 minutes.

Spear has scored 2,143 career points and passed Candace Parker (2,137) for No. 7 on Tennessee’s career scoring list, including transfers. Her perfect 11-of-11 free throw percentage against Alabama also tied for fifth place in program history.

Spear transferred to Tennessee from Wake Forest ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Parker played at Tennessee from 2006-08 under head coach Pat Summit .She led the Lady Vols to consecutive national championships from 2007-08. Parker’s No. 3 jersey number is retired by the Lady Vols.

She also played in the WNBA from 2008-23 and was selected No. 1 overall in the 2008 WNBA draft by Los Angeles. The former Lady Vol also played for Chicago and Las Vegas.
