Kim Caldwell says her baby boy will be ‘proud of his girls’ after Tennessee upset UConn

She led No. 17 Tennessee (17-5) to on Thursday, only Conor Scott Caldwell. After the upset, Caldwell made an appearance on “SportsCenter” with Scott Van Pelt.

Van Pelt’s final question was about what Caldwell will tell Conor day about the win.

“Our team has been so great throughout my whole pregnancy, I’m finally just getting back to feeling like myself,” Caldwell said. “And those girls talked to him when he was in my belly every single day, even in the middle of practice. So I think he’d be really proud of his girls tonight.”

The Lady Vols’ win over UConn was their first since the series was revived in 2020. The two teams did not play from 2008-2019 after legendary coach Pat Summitt canceled the series in 2007. The Huskies won the previous four matchups since 2020 and now lead the series 17-10.

Caldwell navigated her first season at the helm pregnant and gave birth to Conor, her first child, on Jan. 20. She missed Tennessee’s loss at Texas on Jan. 23, but was back in practice the next day. Caldwell returned to the sideline to coach the Lady Vols against South Carolina one week after having her son.

Conor was on Caldwell’s mind as soon as the game was over. In her postgame interview with ESPN, Caldwell was itching to get home.

“I want to go home and see my baby boy,” Caldwell said on ESPN.
