KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee baseball head coach Tony Vitello met with the media on Monday to discuss the Vols’ recent series against Samford.

Tennessee (9-0) swept the three-game series against the Bulldogs, outscoring them 27-7. The Vols’ offense was led by senior first baseman Luc Lipcius, who hit .455 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs.

Vitello was pleased with the way his team’s offense performed against Samford.

“I thought we did a good job of being aggressive and taking advantage of some mistakes that Samford made,” Vitello said. “We also did a good job of being patient and working counts, which allowed us to get some good pitches to hit.”

The Vols’ offense has been one of the most potent in the country so far this season, averaging over 9 runs per game. Vitello attributes the team’s success at the plate to a combination of factors.

“I think we’ve got a good mix of guys who can hit for power and guys who can get on base and create some chaos,” Vitello said. “We’ve also got a good approach at the plate, where we’re looking to be aggressive and take advantage of mistakes, but also be patient and work counts.”

One of the key contributors to the Vols’ offense has been Lipcius, who has hit .375 with 4 home runs and 15 RBIs so far this season. Vitello praised Lipcius’ performance against Samford.

“Luc was really good this weekend,” Vitello said. “He’s a guy who’s always been able to hit, but he’s also worked really hard to improve his power and his ability to drive the ball. He’s been a big part of our offense so far this season.”

Another key contributor to the Vols’ offense has been sophomore center fielder Drew Gilbert, who has hit .357 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs so far this season. Vitello praised Gilbert’s performance against Samford.

“Drew was really good this weekend,” Vitello said. “He’s a guy who’s always been able to hit, but he’s also worked really hard to improve his power and his ability to drive the ball. He’s been a big part of our offense so far this season.”

The Vols will look to keep their winning streak alive next weekend, when they host Indiana State in a three-game series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

“We’re excited to get back out on the field and compete again,” Vitello said. “We know that Indiana State is a good team, and we’ll need to be ready to play if we want to come out on top.”
