KNOXVILLE, TN – The #5 Tennessee Volunteers basketball team is set to take on the LSU Tigers in a late-night clash on Wednesday, with tipoff scheduled for 9:00 PM ET at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Vols, who are currently riding a six-game winning streak, will look to extend their dominance in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) against an LSU team that has been struggling to find consistency this season.
“We’re excited about the challenge,” said Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes. “LSU is a talented team, and they’ve got some guys who can really score the ball. We’ll need to be at our best to come out on top.”
Tennessee, which is currently ranked #5 in the latest AP Poll, has been one of the most dominant teams in the country this season. The Vols have won 20 of their last 22 games, and their only two losses came against top-10 teams.
“We’ve been playing some great basketball lately,” said Tennessee guard Santiago Vescovi. “We’re clicking on all cylinders, and we’re confident that we can beat anyone in the country.”
LSU, on the other hand, has been struggling to find its footing this season. The Tigers have lost four of their last six games, and they currently sit at 12-12 overall and 4-8 in the SEC.
Despite their struggles, LSU is still a talented team that is capable of pulling off an upset. The Tigers have a number of talented players, including guard Cam Thomas, who is averaging 22.5 points per game.
“We know that LSU is a tough team,” said Tennessee forward Olivier Nkamhoua. “They’ve got some guys who can really score the ball, and they’re always going to give us their best shot. We’ll need to be ready to play.”
The Vols and Tigers have a long history of competition on the hardwood, with Tennessee holding a 64-47 advantage in the all-time series. However, LSU has won two of the last three meetings between the two teams, including a 78-65 victory in Knoxville last season.
“We’re looking forward to the challenge,” said Barnes. “LSU is a tough team, and they’re always going to give us a battle. We’ll need to be at our best to come out on top.”
The game is set to tip off at 9:00 PM ET, and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Fans can also listen to the game on the Vol Network, with Bob Kesling and Bert Bertelkamp on the call.
