KNOXVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball program is facing an unexpected shake-up following the announcement of assistant coach Roman Tubner’s departure from the team.

According to a statement released by the university, Tubner has left the program to pursue other opportunities. The news comes as a surprise to many, as Tubner had been a key member of the Lady Vols’ coaching staff since 2020.

“We appreciate Roman’s contributions to our program during his time here,” said Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Tubner’s departure is a significant loss for the Lady Vols, as he had played a crucial role in the team’s recruiting efforts and had helped develop several key players. His absence will undoubtedly be felt, particularly as the team prepares for the upcoming postseason.

The Lady Vols are currently ranked 12th in the country and have a 22-5 overall record. They are also 11-3 in the Southeastern Conference, with several key games remaining on their schedule.

While the team’s on-court performance has been impressive, the loss of Tubner could potentially disrupt the team’s chemistry and momentum. The Lady Vols will need to quickly adjust to the change and find a way to replace Tubner’s expertise and guidance.

“Roman was a valuable member of our staff, and we’ll miss him,” said Harper. “But we’re confident in our team’s ability to adapt and move forward. We’re focused on finishing the season strong and making a deep run in the postseason.”

The Lady Vols will return to action on Thursday, when they host the Vanderbilt Commodores at Thompson-Boling Arena. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET.

As for Tubner, his future plans are unclear. However, it’s likely that he will land on his feet, given his experience and reputation as a top-notch assistant coach.

“Roman is a talented coach, and I’m sure he’ll have plenty of opportunities,” said Harper. “We appreciate his time here, and we wish him all the best.”
