KNOXVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Volunteers baseball team is set to take on Hofstra today at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, and fans are in for a treat.
The Vols are coming off a strong performance in their season-opening series against Indiana State, and they’re looking to keep the momentum going against the Pride.
Tennessee (2-0) is led by a strong pitching staff, which features a mix of veteran arms and talented newcomers. The Vols’ offense is also expected to be a major factor, with a lineup that features a mix of power hitters and speedsters.
Hofstra (0-2), on the other hand, is looking to bounce back from a tough opening weekend. The Pride dropped both games of their season-opening series against UNC Wilmington, but they’re looking to turn things around against the Vols.
“We’re excited to get back out on the field and compete,” said Hofstra head coach, John Russo. “Tennessee is a great team, and we know it’s going to be a tough game. But we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
The Vols are expected to start junior right-hander, Chase Dollander, on the mound today. Dollander was impressive in his first start of the season, allowing just one run on three hits in five innings of work against Indiana State.
“Chase is a talented pitcher who has a lot of experience,” said Tennessee head coach, Tony Vitello. “He’s got a great mix of pitches, and he’s always around the strike zone. We’re expecting big things from him this season.”
The Vols’ offense is led by senior outfielder, Seth Stephenson, who is hitting .400 on the young season. Stephenson has also shown impressive power, with two home runs in the Vols’ first two games.
“Seth is a great player who can do it all,” said Vitello. “He’s got power, speed, and a great arm. He’s a leader on our team, and we’re expecting big things from him this season.”
Today’s game is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols are expecting a big crowd, and fans are encouraged to arrive early to secure their seats.
“We’re excited to get back out in front of our fans,” said Vitello. “Lindsey Nelson Stadium is one of the best venues in college baseball, and we’re looking forward to putting on a show for our fans.”
The Vols are looking to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament this season, and they’re off to a strong start. With a win over Hofstra today, Tennessee can improve to 3-0 on the young season and set themselves up for a big weekend series against Eastern Kentucky.
“We’re taking it one game at a time,” said Vitello. “We know Hofstra is a tough opponent, and we’re going to have to come out and play well if we want to get the win. But we’re confident in our abilities, and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Today’s game against Hofstra is just the beginning of a big weekend for the Vols. Tennessee will host Eastern Kentucky on Saturday and Sunday, and the Vols are looking to make a statement against the Colonels.
“We’re excited for the challenge,” said Vitello. “Eastern Kentucky is a great team, and we know it’s going to be a tough series. But we’re confident in our abilities, and we’re looking forward to putting on a show for our fans.”
