“Lady Vols Basketball: A Total Team Effort Leads to Dominant Win Over Auburn”
Knoxville, Tennessee – The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team put on a show at Thompson-Boling Arena, defeating the Auburn Tigers 99-61 in a game that saw every Lady Vol score. The dominant victory was a testament to the team’s depth and chemistry, as all 11 players who saw action scored at least two points.
“It was a great team effort,” said Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper. “We had everyone contribute, and that’s what makes this team special. We’re not just relying on one or two players to carry us. We’re a team, and we’re playing like it.”
The Lady Vols were led by junior guard Jordan Horston, who scored 17 points and dished out 7 assists. However, it was the team’s bench that really made the difference, outscoring Auburn’s bench 43-15.
“Our bench was huge for us tonight,” Harper said. “They brought energy and enthusiasm, and they made some big plays. It’s great to see our players stepping up and making contributions.”
One of the standout performers off the bench was freshman guard Brooklyn Miles, who scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in just 15 minutes of action.
“Brooklyn was fantastic tonight,” Harper said. “She’s a talented player who is still learning, but she’s getting more confident every game. She made some big shots and played some great defense.”
The Lady Vols also got a strong performance from senior forward Keyen Green, who scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Green was one of five Lady Vols to score in double figures, along with Horston, Miles, junior guard Sara Puckett (12 points), and sophomore forward Tamari Key (10 points).
“It’s great to see our players sharing the ball and finding each other,” Harper said. “We’re not just looking for one person to score. We’re looking for everyone to contribute, and that’s what happened tonight.”
The Lady Vols’ dominant victory over Auburn was also a testament to the team’s defensive prowess. Tennessee held the Tigers to just 35.4% shooting from the field, including 25.0% from three-point range.
“Our defense was solid tonight,” Harper said. “We were active and aggressive, and we made it tough for Auburn to get good looks. It’s great to see our players buying in and playing tough defense.”
The Lady Vols will look to build on their momentum when they host the Vanderbilt Commodores on Sunday. The game is scheduled to tip off at 2:00 p.m. ET at Thompson-Boling Arena.
“We’re excited to get back out there and play again,” Harper said. “We’re feeling confident and energized, and we’re looking forward to another great game.”
