Lady Vols great Chamique Holdsclaw to be inducted into Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

KNOXVILLE, TN – Lady Vols basketball legend Chamique Holdsclaw is set to be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, the organization announced on Tuesday.

 

Holdsclaw, who played for the Lady Vols from 1995-1999, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the program. During her time at Tennessee, Holdsclaw helped lead the Lady Vols to three NCAA championships and was a four-time All-American.

 

“Chamique Holdsclaw is a true legend of Tennessee basketball,” said Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper. “Her accomplishments on the court are simply incredible, and she is an inspiration to countless young players. We are thrilled to see her recognized by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.”

 

Holdsclaw’s impressive resume includes numerous accolades, including the 1998 and 1999 NCAA Player of the Year awards. She was also a three-time SEC Player of the Year and was named the 1999 Wade Trophy winner as the nation’s top female player.

 

After her illustrious collegiate career, Holdsclaw went on to play professionally in the WNBA, where she was a six-time All-Star and was named the 2002 WNBA scoring champion.

 

“Chamique Holdsclaw is an iconic figure in Tennessee sports history,” said Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame executive director Bill Emendorfer. “Her achievements on the court are a testament to her hard work, dedication, and passion for the game. We are honored to welcome her into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.”

 

Holdsclaw’s induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame is set to take place on June 15 at the Omni Nashville Hotel. The ceremony will also include the induction of several other notable Tennessee sports figures, including former Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer and former Lady Vols basketball player and coach, Holly Warlick.

 

“Chamique Holdsclaw is a true legend of Tennessee sports, and we are thrilled to see her recognized by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame,” said Tennessee athletic director Danny White. “Her achievements on the court are a testament to her hard work, dedication, and passion for the game. We are honored to have her as a part of our Tennessee family.”

 

Holdsclaw’s induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to her outstanding career and contributions to the world of sports. Her legacy continues to inspire countless young athletes and fans, and her place among the greatest Tennessee sports figures is well-deserved.
