Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is expected to be replaced as Serie A manager
Inter Milan and Italian football legend Marco Materazzi have appointed Manchester City manager to replace Pep Guardiola.
The 53-year-old Catalan manager still has doubts over his future at the Etihad Stadium as he considers extending his contract at the club until the end of this season.
Guardiola has been in charge of Manchester City for nine seasons and while his success at the Etihad Stadium is unprecedented, concerns remain that this will be his last.
With Guardiola’s contract expiring at the end of this season, various media outlets are eyeing a potential successor to the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich tactician. One of the greatest Italian footballers of all time joins the discussion.
He has appointed one of the top talents in the Italian top division, who knows Manchester City all too well, as the future manager of the Etihad Stadium.
In an interview with Italian football podcast SempreInter.com this week, Marco Materazzi recommended current Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi as the next Manchester City manager.
“I am an Inter fan. So I hope he stays at Inter. Because his work at Inter is not over yet. I think he has a good profile in the Premier League,” admitted Materazzi. “Maybe Arteta is one of the best managers in the Premier League, but for me Arsenal could be one of Simona’s clubs. And for Manchester City, nobody knows what Pep will do.
“But I want Simon to stay in Italy. I’m not his manager.
I am his friend because we played against each other and we are on good terms. I cannot decide his fate.
Manchester City are currently continuing to monitor Pep Guardiola’s contract extension, with some expecting a final decision to be made in the coming days and weeks as the 53-year-old takes time off from club duties.
One of the big changes confirmed at Manchester City towards the end of this season is the position of the club’s Director of Football Operations. Sporting’s Hugo Viana joined from Txiki Begiristan after 12 seasons at the club.
