Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaras has broken his silence on Manchester City’s interest and revealed details of his talks with Brazilian Pep Guardiola

Newcastle star Bruno Guimaras claims he is enjoying his time at St James’ Park despite rejecting interest from Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.

The midfielder is believed to have attracted interest from Manchester City this summer as he has a £100m buyout clause in his contract, which expires at the end of June.

Guimaraes has been one of Newcastle’s key players since joining from Lyon for £33m in January 2022.

The Brazilian has acknowledged interest from Manchester City and revealed details of his talks with Guardiola, but insisted he has always been committed to Newcastle.

“I’m an idol at my club and I have a lot of respect,” Guimaraes told Brazilian newspaper Globo. “I’m the captain of Newcastle and if you’d asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. “I love to play, I love to be an idol and I love to be a captain. I really like Newcastle.

“Of course, the interest from Manchester City shows that I am at a high level, but it is nothing more than interest. “I know Guardiola likes my football.

It’s normal to have a great coach who respects your football.
“I spoke once and complimented his work and he complimented mine, but nothing more than that.”

Reports of Manchester City’s interest increased after Guardiola praised Guimarez ahead of the FA Cup tie with Newcastle in March. “He is a special defensive midfielder, he is aggressive with or without the ball,” Guardiola said.

He is aggressive in certain situations and, since his time at Lyon, is now a true defensive midfielder for a club that is looking to get bigger and bigger.
“I’m sure he will be part of this project for years to come. “yet.”

A new report has emerged that Manchester City are interested in the midfielder following Rodri’s absence this season.

The Ballon d’Or winner suffered a cruciate ligament injury last September.
