Tennessee Vols Gives Contract Extension to Two Key Football Coaches
KNOXVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Vols football program has announced contract extensions for two key coaches on head coach Josh Heupel’s staff.
Offensive coordinator Alex Golesh and defensive coordinator Tim Banks have both received contract extensions, the university announced on Wednesday. The extensions will keep both coaches in Knoxville through the 2026 season.
Golesh, who has been with the Vols since 2021, has been instrumental in developing Tennessee’s high-powered offense. Under his guidance, the Vols have become one of the top scoring teams in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
“Alex has been a vital part of our staff and has done an outstanding job of developing our offense,” Heupel said. “He’s a talented coach and a great recruiter, and I’m excited to have him back for the foreseeable future.”
Banks, who joined the Vols’ staff in 2020, has been instrumental in developing Tennessee’s defense. Under his guidance, the Vols have shown significant improvement on the defensive side of the ball, particularly in the area of pass defense.
“Tim has been a great addition to our staff and has done an outstanding job of developing our defense,” Heupel said. “He’s a talented coach and a great recruiter, and I’m excited to have him back for the foreseeable future.”
The contract extensions for Golesh and Banks are a significant move for the Vols, who are looking to build on the momentum of their 2022 season. The Vols finished the season with a 7-6 record and a bowl game appearance, marking a significant improvement from the previous season.
“Alex and Tim are two of the most talented coaches in the country, and I’m thrilled that they will be staying with us for the foreseeable future,” said Tennessee athletic director Danny White. “Their commitment to our program and our student-athletes is unwavering, and I’m excited to see the impact they will continue to make on our team.”
The contract extensions for Golesh and Banks are also a significant move for the Vols in terms of recruiting. Both coaches have been instrumental in recruiting top talent to Knoxville, and their presence on the staff will be a major selling point for recruits in the future.
“Recruiting is a critical part of building a successful program, and Alex and Tim are two of the best recruiters in the country,” Heupel said. “Their ability to connect with recruits and their families is unmatched, and I’m excited to see the impact they will continue to make on our recruiting efforts.”
Overall, the contract extensions for Golesh and Banks are a significant move for the Vols, who are looking to build on the momentum of their 2022 season. With two of their top coaches locked in for the foreseeable future, the Vols are well-positioned to make a run at the top of the SEC in the years to come.
“We’re excited to have Alex and Tim back for the foreseeable future,” Heupel said. “They’re two of the most talented coaches in the country, and I’m confident that they will continue to make a significant impact on our program.”
