The Manchester City man has given Pep Guardiola a huge tactical boost since his last international appearance

Manchester City have been going through a tough time recently.
More importantly, City have lost their last four games in all competitions. This is an unprecedented achievement for a team managed by Pep Guardiola. After losing 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League last week, Guardiola admitted that City needed an international break.

The first week of the November transfer window saw a number of names of cities in their home countries being unveiled, many of which will come just days before domestic football resumes. One City player in particular showed the manager a play that could inject extra tactical vitality into the match ahead. Rico Luis surprises England with victory over Greece.

Rico Lewis, one of only two City players to have played in England’s last two Nations League games, played the full 90 minutes in the Three Lions’ 3-0 victory over Greece.

19-year-old touched the ball a total of 55 times and completed all 38 passes. This makes him the only player in the starting lineup to complete 90 minutes with 100% accuracy. He also earned all four runs he faced, scoring three runs, two hits and even a home run.

This performance earned Lewis an overall rating of 7.7/10, making him the third highest rated British player of the night. Additionally, the British press has praised Lewis for his recent win against the Three Lions. Now Guardiola may have an additional tactical weapon

In terms of the impact this game has had on City, Lewis played at left-back in the first half against Greece but moved to right-back in the second half.

Having shown how well he can play on both defensive flanks, Guardiola could now deploy the youngster more often on the left.
With City relying on Josko Guardiola on the left due to Nathan Ake’s injury, moving Luiz to the left would allow Guardiola to overhaul the defence in several areas for the rest of the season.
