The Tennessee Volunteers baseball team continued their dominant start to the 2025 season, defeating the Hofstra Pride 12-2 in a run-rule shortened game on Saturday.

The Vols, who won their season opener 15-0 over Hofstra on Friday, showed no signs of letting up in the second game of the series. They pounded out 12 hits, including three home runs, and scored 12 runs to take the win.

Tennessee’s offense was led by junior outfielder, Christian Scott, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Scott’s home run was his second of the season, and he is now hitting .571 with five RBIs.

“Christian is a special player,” said Tennessee head coach, Tony Vitello. “He’s got a lot of power and a lot of speed. He’s a guy who can change the game with one swing of the bat.”

The Vols’ pitching staff was also impressive, with sophomore right-hander, Drew Beam, tossing five innings to earn the win. Beam allowed just two runs on four hits, and struck out six.

“Drew was outstanding today,” said Vitello. “He’s got a lot of talent and a lot of poise. He’s a guy who can pitch in big games and come out on top.”

The Vols’ defense was solid, committing just one error and turning a double play.

“We’re playing well right now,” said Vitello. “We’re hitting, pitching, and defending. We’re doing all the things we need to do to win games.”

The win was Tennessee’s second consecutive run-rule victory over Hofstra, and their third consecutive win overall. The Vols will look to sweep the series on Sunday, when they host the Pride in the final game of the series.

“We’re not going to get too high or too low,” said Scott. “We’re going to stay focused and take it one game at a time. We know we’ve got a tough schedule ahead of us, but we’re ready for the challenge.”

The Vols’ dominant start to the season has them ranked #1 in the country, according to the latest polls. They will look to continue their winning ways on Sunday, when they host the Hofstra Pride in the final game of the series.

“We’re not going to let our ranking define us,” said Vitello. “We’re going to use it as motivation to get better and to make another run at a championship. We’re excited to see what this season holds.”

The Tennessee Volunteers will host the Hofstra Pride in the final game of the series on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
