COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two Ohio State football players took a break from football after their national championship victory to work a shift at Raising Cane’s on Wednesday.
Quarterback Will Howard and defensive end Jack Sawyer worked at the Raising Cane’s located at 1211 Olentangy River Rd from 10 a.m. through 11 a.m.
The two Buckeyes served fans and led chants alongside Brutus. Howard and Sawyer worked the front counter and drive-thru.
The Buckeyes won the national title game Monday night 34-23 against Notre Dame.
Ohio State had a commanding 31-7 lead in the third quarter, thanks to three touchdowns by running back Quinshon Judkins. Freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith scored the team’s first touchdown of the night.
Notre Dame made Ohio State sweat a bit, cutting the lead to 8. A 56-yard pass to Smith in the middle of the fourth quarter, setting up a field goal basically secured Ohio State’s first national title in a decade.
The Buckeyes rolled through four games in the new, expanded playoff — what great timing for Ohio State that the tournament swelled to a dozen teams in a year it didn’t even play for the Big Ten title — by an average score of 36-21.
Ohio State was seeded eighth, but the seedings were pretty much meaningless. The worse seed won every game in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, and the Buckeyes dominated in this title-game showdown of No. 7 vs. No. 8.
Ohio State will host a championship celebration on Sunday at Ohio Stadium starting at noon. More details on the event will be released later, b
ut it will be free.
